Enhancing Writing Proficiency: An Investigation into The Impact Of AI-assisted Tools in EFL Education (ChatGPT and Grammarly)
(centre universitaire Salhi Ahmed Naama, 2024) Hamzi madani
This study investigates the impact of AI-assisted writing tools, specifically ChatGPT and Grammarly on enhancing writing proficiency in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in education. With the fast-growing rate of technology, it is noticeable that the education field in general especially universities and higher educational institutions is counting on the use of these tools since they provide a great backup for the teaching and learning process. The research aims to explore how these tools can be effectively integrated into EFL writing instruction to improve students' writing skills. The study employs a mixed methods approach, combining quantitative data collection through the questionnaire that was dedicated to the students and qualitative methods through the interviews that were done with the teachers. Findings indicate the positive impact of AI-assisted tools on motivation and the level of proficiency in addition it can significantly enhance students' writing proficiency by providing instant feedback, promoting self-editing skills, and increasing engagement with writing tasks. However, careful ethical consideration should be given to the selection of appropriate AI tools, professional development for teachers, and the teacher's strategies to avoid the negative side of these tools.
